Our goal is to house roughly two dozen owls that represent the diversity of species around the world. Outdoor aviaries will be spacious and vegetated to offer both comfort and mental stimulation for the birds. We will strive to achieve a few walk-through aviaries where there is little to nothing between the visitors and the owls to allow for a more natural experience and better photographic opportunities.

Aviaries will be clustered by habitat. Each cluster of aviaries and their associated walkways will be completely enclosed in mesh to exclude biting insects for the health of the birds and for the comfort of the visitors.

Multiple climate-controlled aviaries will be attached to the building for species that require heating and cooling.

Owls used in programs will be housed in aviaries that are off public display.

Our Mission

The International Owl Center advances the survival of wild owl populations through education and research. We plan to accomplish our mission through biological and cultural programs and displays, green building design, citizen-science and other research, international exchange of information, the World Owl Hall of Fame, the International Festival of Owls, and other means.
