The Houston Nature Center is serving as a launching pad for the International Owl Center. The Center currently offers a selection of touchable labeled owl wings, feet, heads, tails and more to explore, as well as an owl replica that illustrates just how far an owl can turn its head.
Our selection of mounted owl specimens includes seven different species. Two of the mounts were prepared by owl biologist Roar Solheim from Norway and are so perfect they are often mistaken for live owls.
Alice the Great Horned Owl normally works Thursday through Saturday, and is often in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays too. She is sometimes off site doing programs, and occasionally stays home for various reasons (such as maternity leave to incubate eggs in Jan/Feb.) Please call ahead to verify that Alice will be in if you would like to make sure you will see her.
The Center currently offers a selection of interpretive displays that pertain to other local wildlife too, both past and present.
